Kulpreet SinghKulpreet Singh
Simrun Media
Topic: eCommerce

I’m a solutions & strategy guy for small businesses and small-to-medium non-profits looking to start, or improve, their online sales, marketing and fundraising initiatives. I run Simrun Media, a Vancouver business services & consulting firm. My areas of focus include eCommerce (online business) planning, pay-per-click marketing, copywriting, and custom WordPress development of online shopping sites, catalogues and directories. In other news, in the next few months I will be working on an online flower shopping catalogue, organizing a mental health conference for the South Asian community, and helping organize a web developers conference in Vancouver, BC.

So you want to sell stuff online? My presentation at WordCamp Victoria will be the friendly nudge you need to get started, whether to sell an eBook, your music, or hand-made dog sweaters (joking, please don’t). I’ll talk about why you should start selling, what you will need, and how you can make it happen relatively easily with (or without) WordPress, along with some examples of WordPress powered shopping sites, for inspiration. Feel free to connect with me on Twitter @SimrunMedia (light volume, more biz-tech tweets) or @KulpreetSingh (high volume, across the board topics).

I am a WordPress user and theme tweaker. I have been working on my personal site since 1997 and using WordPress since 2.1. I also like to assist other WordPress users hanging around the Support Forums and Trac (as thee17). I have even been known to submit patches to core. Right now my interests are in making WordPress a functional Gallery platform using the latest cutting-edge features WordPress has to offer (taxonomies, post types, post formats, post statuses, and widgets). Aside from tweaking my website I help local non-profit groups with their WordPress powered sites and spend my spare time Directing or doing Graphics for the local community TV station.

David HutchisonDavid Hutchison
InGoal Magazine
Topic: Relationship Building as it Relates to Blogging

David Hutchison is the creator and managing partner of InGoal Magazine along with Vancouver journalist Kevin Woodley. IGM is the leading online location for hockey goaltenders, with a print edition on the horizon. In real life he’s the Director of Advancement for Shawnigan Lake School where the experiences he has had with InGoal are helping the School connect with parents and alumni through the web.

As bloggers we are quick to promote the usefulness of the web for building relationships – we’re all familiar with the tool from email to Twitter and Facebook – but how do we go about using those tools, how can relationships help us and most importantly – isn’t there still a role for offline communications. In my professional life I spend most of my time fundraising and the key to successful fundraising is relationship building – and it is the key to successful blogging as well.

Nancy FraserNancy Fraser
Nota Bene Consulting
Topic: Build A Website That Is A Marketing Asset

Through a lucky fluke Nancy Fraser fell into the radio business in 1981. It was not luck that she succeeded personally because she understood the route to success was through helping her clients achieve success. Working with a diverse range of clients from local small businesses to multinational corporations provided great experience and insights that she later applied to her hobby as a wholesale rep doing business at New York wholesale shows. Later when she opened a retail store and shortly thereafter purchased a commercial building to house it, she learned the benefits of doing things right the first time. In 2003 she left radio and launched her current business, Nota Bene Consulting. Although the business focus has changed over the years, the primary purpose remains the same, to help small businesses choose the right marketing tools and use them effectively. Nancy is also an occasional guest instructor for BCIT’s Venture Program.
